“Badhai Ho” is an Entertaining Yet Very Thought Provoking Movie That You will Definitely Enjoy

I went to watch this movie “Badhai Ho” with my friends on their insistence since I was reluctant to move anywhere from my room that day. But within less than ten minutes of the movie’s screening in the hall, I was so much engrossed in the movie that it didn’t take any moment for me to realize that it is a movie worth time and money. “This is the most entertaining yet thought-provoking movie I have watched lately.”

The movie is about a married couple Jeetendra Kaushik and Priyamvada (Gajraj Rao & Neena Gupta) who unexpectedly out of passion ends up having an unplanned pregnancy, when the couple already has two grown-up sons. This news comes as a shock for everyone in the family, leaving everyone embarrassed.

There is this Dadi (Surekha Sikhri) in the house who takes the proper class of the couple for not having used the protection while having sex. On top of that, the neighbours and relatives don’t leave any stone unturned to pull the leg of the couple.

Nakul (Ayushman Khurana), who is the eldest son of the couple is in a stable relationship with his colleague Rene (Sanya Malhotra). The younger son of the couple, Gullar, studies in 10th standard. Both Nakul and Gullar are also ashamed of their parents, which is exacerbated the teasing of their friends. It is because of this embarrassment that both them don’t go to Meerut to attend the marriage of their cousin along with their parents.

Meanwhile, Nakul stops visiting his office for a few days and refuses to tell Rene as to why he is upset. When he finally tells Rene about the pregnancy of her mother, though she initially laughs at it; but later on she makes him understand that he shouldn’t be embarrassed about the pregnancy of his middle-aged mother because of the taunts and comments of the society. In the end, all the family members including Dadi, Nakul and Gullu rejoice the birth of the new bagirl, throwing the judgements and comment of the society out of the window.

“Badhi ho” is a movie that you will not get bored for a single minute at any point in time while watching. It is a comedy full of hilarious dialogues that will make you laugh until your stomach starts hurting. But at the same time in the core of the movie lies a deep thought-provoking social message that runs throughout the movie, keeping the audience captivated. It depicts the attitude of society towards those couples who beget in their middle age. Which is evident the comments such as “ Dekhne meein to Sareef lagte hain” and “Sanskar hi nahi hain”, passed at Jeetendra Kaushik and Privyamvada respectively.

In a society where sex is considered a taboo, this movie tells about the perception that people hold about the sex life of a middle-aged couple. It shows how grown-up children think that their parents don’t have a sex life. There is a lot you can find relatable in the movie, especially if you belong to a middle-class family. Those fights between brothers, the taunts of mother- in- law, the gossips of aunties, the over-protective nature of parents towards their children when it comes to sending them abroad, and many more scenes will mesmerise you to the core.

Other than that, the romantic relationship between Nakul and Nene makes the movie even more interesting to watch. If you have an elder brother or a younger brother in the family, the relationship between Gullar and Nakul will definitely remind you of your brother. Every character in the movie has done justice to their respective roles. But the performance of Gajraj Rao and Surekha Sikhri just stand out.
